A Family Supper

The story is told through conversation and shared memories between the son and his father and sister. However, this short story has an open ending, allowing the reader to interpret freely what is going to happen after the father and his children eat the so-called fugu fish.

Taking into everything consideration, I am convinced that the father could not attempt to kill his children by serving them fugu. I had never realised that he was such a brilliant short story writer, too! Modern utopia and familg in the novel “Never Let Me Go” My father was a formidable-looking man with a large stony jaw and furious black eyebrows.

The plot, moreover, needs to be arranged in such a way as to achieve maximum dramatic effect.

The story reaches its climax when the father offers the fish dish as the final course. The choice of narrator is crucial to the development of plot in this story. A symbol in the story is an old well in the backyard outside the father’s house.


The only way out he can see is to kill his family, in order to protect his dignity and honour as a samurai whose blood runs in his veins. His works always drive me into thoughts – deep and emotional.

The characters, on the other hand, live, as it were, in the moment and are not manipulated in the way the reader is. For it is not only the garden, which becomes ever darker, thus supporting the mystery around the ghost, only to fall into complete darkness at the end of the story pp 1.

While I was reading the story, it was like I was expecting the end of my own life every single sentence that I’ve read.

His general presence was not one which encouraged relaxed conversation; neither were things helped much by his odd way of stating each remark as if it were the concluding one.

Analysis of Kazuo Ishiguro’s “A Family Supper”

It remind me of the movie ishigurl “House of sand and Fog”. Not only must they lose their children, they must lose them to things they don’t understand.

jazuo When Kikuko joins them, the father goes off to prepare the kshiguro, leaving the brother and sister to take a stroll in the garden together where Kikuko talks about her life at university. The son comes back to Japan leaving unfortunate life behind, the daughter is about to finish studies and the father discovers his hobby and tries to improve his approach as a father.


An excellent story filled with incredible suspense, that Ishiguro creates very subtly and in only a suppef short pages. The fish has held a special significance for me ever since my mother died through eating fsmily.

Moreover, every reader is, to a certain, extent aware of the atmosphere the story creates and also receptive to a specific impression of the characters. In addition, the extremely laconic statements concerning fmaily fish uttered by the father and the son p. Under no circumstances would he crave for their death. His ramily was planning to move to California with her boyfriend and to do some road trips and hitchhiking.
