I was a big fan of the TV Show Moonlight when it was on CBS, so much so that I remained affiliated with several online email groups and Facebook groups after the show was cancelled–just to keep apprised of any further developments. This book is very discriptive and adds a new twist to the vampire story they are not painted as the sexy demi-gods as many of the pnr and uf books portray them as.

Equal parts scary, fun, and funny, it was the one that initially sparked my interest in vampires, and made me want to write something in the genre one day. It is not veneance type of novel I would normally read, in terms of 40’s detective noir themes.

What resulted, was the character of Mick Angel, a sort of blood-sucking Philip Marlowe who was turned treor the forties and who now finds himself unwilling or unable to get in step with the modern world in which he lives. This book was a welcome relief to my Moonlight withdrawals.

The novel is about Mick solving the case of a missing girl, while reliving flashbacks about his ex-wife Coraline. Somethings have to be changed in order for film to move along, but on the whole it’s the same character doing the same sorts of things.

Read more Read less. We read the story from Mick’s point of view. Refresh and try again. The TV role of Coraline is also very different and watered down compared to who she is in the novel. His turning by Coraline, for instance, isn’t the same and Coraline is a stone-cold monster also with a different backstory.

It is very close to reality, unlike any other stories about blood-suckers. The new Review Guidelines have been posted on the Flames Rising website. I really enjoyed this book frevor much. All in all, something I would definitely re-read. The book is a far grittier world, but many of the themes of addiction, transcendence, and redemption that motivate both versions of Mick are the much the same.
